Alcohol: Filling In A Glass Or A Car Tank
On September 6, 2007, the then Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said: «If the agrarian complex is built in Ukraine in the right way, Ukraine will become an agrarian Kuwait.» Almost five years have come and gone since then, but the number of those wishing to find a panacea for energy diseases have not declined. And now the Agricultural Policy and Food Minister of the next government says that if one wants, either 10%, or 20%, or even 30% of vehicles can be transferred to the world’s best fuel…

Enchanted Prices
The world’s political elite have lost the confidence of the markets and found themselves between the devil and the deep blue sea – high prices of crude oil and the need to facilitate economic development. The weak reaction of markets to statements by politicians on target-oriented solutions that could rein in prices of crude oil and ensure global economic growth has once again confirmed that the credit of investors’ trust has become exhausted.
Time To Slow Down
According to economic forecasts given by the Psyche Center on the basis of its regressive analytical model, this week prices of major petrol brands will increase again, but the increase will not be as significant as in the last days of March. The average retail price of A-92 and A-95 petrol to DSTU 4063:2001 standards and that of summer-type 0.2-62 diesel fuel to DSTU 3868-99 standards will be UAH 10.95, UAH 10.60 and UAH 10.13 per liter respectively.

Ready To Swim?
On April 3, 2012, a new posting entitled «The Government is Taking Tough Decisions to Stabilize Petrol Prices» has appeared in the Ukrainian Prime Minister’s blog. In his posting, the government’s head Mykola Azarov (or most likely it was someone from the press service) tried to explain Ukrainians that what was «really going on» and «to express his own position» in connection with a piece of a TV program on the Inter Channel Program in which a driver was expressing his «indignation at petrol price hikes and was blaming the government for inaction.» Nobody doubts that it is «common practice to blame the authorities always and for everything» (although its guilt in the March petrol price increase is not far from obvious). But the pile of absurdities written on the Web on behalf of the premier to explain the current situation on the fuel market makes us wonder: Is the government aware of what it is doing?

Glory Could Be Different
Kherson region’s consumer right protection department has accused LUKOIL-Ukraine, a company with foreign investment, with selling commodities that do not meet requirements. This conclusion by the department was the result of tests conducted in the 10th Chemmotology Center, which calculated the company’s fine to be UAH 188,000. However, it did not last long – an examination under arbitration has whitened the company’s image…
